How to Choose a Wedding Photographer
If you are here, you must be engaged! Congratulations! Planning a wedding can be so overwhelming, but the steps below might help you narrow down a photographer to help you document your special day.
Decide your budget
Your budget determines the priorities you are setting for your wedding day. Think about what is most important to you in terms of the whole experience.
Is the food your biggest priority? The music? Or the photos that you, your children, and grandchildren will look back at for years to come.
There is a huge difference between a $500 wedding photographer and a $5000 wedding photographer (and it isn’t just the money). The biggest differences are the photo quality, their skill levels, and the overall experience they offer the couples.
2. Look at Pinterest!
Pinterest is my best friend (and it should be yours too)! Just search “wedding photos.” Pay attention to the editing styles that you see.
Do you like the moody look? True to color? Bright and Airy? Keep this in mind for the next step!
3. Google a few photographers
Depending on how close your venue is to your home, I would suggest either searching wedding photographers near you OR wedding photographers near your venue. This will provide a list of photographers local to you to pick from.
4. Look through their portfolios
Compare back to that editing style you liked from step 2. Do any of these photographers have work similar in their galleries?
Also pay attention to how well they captured the important moments. Do you see a lot of emotional, candid photos?
5. Set up meetings with a couple different photographers
The next step is to reach out to a few photographers. Set up some meetings, get to know them and see if you vibe. You are going to be spending most of the day with them. It’s important to like them, too!
6. Set up an engagement session
If you are still on the fence after the meeting, I highly recommend booking an engagement session. It’s a great way to see if their personality meshes with yours, and how they generally lead their sessions. It is so telling as to how they will perform on your wedding day!
I hope this helped give you a direction in how to find a wedding photographer. There are a lot out there and hopefully these tips help you narrow down your search.
